HORSE CORE and equines

what's a collection without horses? that's right- boring! this is horses and horse-shaped creatures. if i get deeper into categories, i may split them based on scientific classification on to dedicated pages. but for now, enjoy things mashed together.

Przewalski + Ardennes + Morgan

  • Przewalski

the przewalski horse is a true wild horse and extremely similar to the horses dipicted in ancient cave paintings. therefore, a ftting example to start the horse collection page.
things to note on this model: this horse is showcasing the usual pangaré coat color with very dark brown mane, tail, and legs. even though primative markings are common with this breed, this model does not show any except for the dark lining on the ears. this figure displays a decent stocky shape, despite being slimmer in the belly than the real life example. it is handpainted and my figure has a few chips in the paint. additionally, the forelock and the spot where the tail meets the rear leg could use some attention.

-i personally think this guy is cute! 8/10!

  • Ardennes

the ardennes is a strong and revered breed. in fact, one of the oldest draft breeds in the world!
things to note about this figure: both the nose and eyes have a gloss over them to make them look more realistic. on the legs, the chestnuts are molded, just not painted. also, since this breed is a draft, there is distinct feathering on the legs! this model is true the muscular build of this breed, with strong, thick legs, large hooves, and calm expression. this model is handpainted, which is evident at the ends of the mane against the neck and cheek. the model is quite orange for a bay, but i find that all the more to like. there is an airbrushed dorsal stripe on his back. overall, this model is a pretty great scuplt and decently weighted.

-the shading is very enjoyable and the pose feels like he is standing in a gentle breeze in a field. 8/10

  • Morgan

the morgan horse is one of the united states' oldest established breeds! since the breed's first register in 1894, this breed now has 4 separate bloodlines. this breed is quite versatile whether it be from cutting to driving, they are a good hardy, well rounded horse. (also one of my favorite breeds!)
things to note about the figure: this is one of the more expressive models, espeically for this breed. the head is slightly tilted to show the inquisitive and attentive nature. the eyes and the nose have a gloss over them to make the figure look more realistic. this model is handpainted, shown where the mane lays on the neck, however, this isn't as evident due to the dark bay coloring on the body. for the most part, the scuplt is good, the body is compact, the head is refined. but it does seem like the nostrils do not line up and i am unsure if that is just an issue with mine or if this flaw is throughout the run of the model. additionally, my figure's feet do not all touch the ground when placed flat, so it does lean to the side. while this is usual with thin four-legged animals, it is still techincally a flaw.

-the pose makes the horse seem like it is ready for whatever work is needed, which is true of the highly versatile morgan breed. the bay is a deep brown color - a bit difficult to photograph. 7/10.
